StatusBird vs Uptime Robot
Uptime Robot checks whether your own URLs respond. StatusBird monitors the third-party services your store depends on — Stripe, Klaviyo, ShipStation, Meta Ads, and 80 more. For Shopify stores, the third-party problem is almost always the more expensive one.
The short answer
Uptime Robot is one of the most popular free URL monitors and it does that job well. But it cannot tell you when Stripe is rejecting payments, when Klaviyo is silently dropping your campaigns, or when your shipping carrier API is down. Those are the outages that cost Shopify stores real money — and they don't show up as a URL going dark. StatusBird monitors all of it.

What Uptime Robot monitors
Uptime Robot pings URLs at a set interval and alerts you if they stop responding. It's excellent for this use case and has earned its popularity — a generous free tier, a clean interface, and reliable URL monitoring for 50 endpoints at no cost. For personal projects, developer side projects, or SaaS founders monitoring their own infrastructure, it's a solid choice.
What Uptime Robot cannot see
When Stripe has a payment outage, your store's URL still returns a 200. When Klaviyo's email delivery API fails, your site is fully up. When Meta Ads has an attribution failure, your campaigns are running normally from a URL perspective. These are the outages that cost Shopify stores the most money — and they are invisible to any URL uptime monitor. Uptime Robot cannot detect any of them, because they happen at the service level, not at your domain.
The cost difference
Uptime Robot starts free. StatusBird Pro is $29/month. That $29 is worth comparing against what third-party outages actually cost. Stripe had 109 outages in the 16 months between January 2025 and May 2026. Klaviyo has had over 440 incidents across its lifetime. A single 2-hour Stripe outage during a mid-traffic morning can cost a store $800 to $1,500 in lost revenue. Knowing about it in 2 minutes versus 2 hours is the difference between pausing your ads and burning spend into a broken checkout.
Using both tools
Uptime Robot and StatusBird address different problems. Some store owners use Uptime Robot on the free tier to watch their own store URL, alongside StatusBird Pro for third-party service monitoring. There is no conflict. But if you can only pick one and you run an e-commerce store, third-party monitoring is where the revenue risk actually lives.
Choose StatusBird if you:
- Run a Shopify, WooCommerce, or DTC store
- Want to know when Stripe, Klaviyo, or ShipStation is down
- Need alerts with e-commerce-specific context — not just 'site is down'
- Want a pre-built catalog of 84 services, no setup required
Choose Uptime Robot if you:
- Need free URL uptime monitoring for your own site or server
- Run a non-e-commerce project with 50+ URLs to monitor
- Already use Uptime Robot and only need basic URL checks
