The Least Reliable E-commerce Services of 2026 (So Far)

StatusBird checks 84 e-commerce services every 2 minutes. Most are excellent: 62 of 84 recorded zero major incidents over the 180 days ending July 2026. This post is about the other end of the table, ranked by total major-incident downtime, because these are the services where independent monitoring earns its keep.

Method: uptime counts major and critical incidents only, measured externally every 2 minutes; details on the methodology page. A bad window is not a verdict on a product: grades move, and the live reliability index always shows the current picture.

What patterns does the bottom 10 show?

Two stand out. Shipping software is overrepresented (AfterShip worst overall, Shippo the most incident-prone at 5), consistent with shipping being the weakest category in the 2026 infrastructure report. And single long incidents outweigh frequent short ones: Square's entire 17 hours came from one event, which is why judging a vendor by incident count alone misleads.

Should you drop a service on this list?

Not reflexively. Some have no drop-in replacement, and several (Klaviyo, Plaid) are B+ services having a middling stretch, not chronic offenders. The actionable move is cheaper than switching: know which of your dependencies sit in this table, monitor them, and have a fallback plan for the ones in your revenue path. Head-to-head alternatives with data: shipping software, payments, helpdesks, and website builders.
