Updated October 28, 2026. Uptime, incident and honesty figures are StatusBird's own readings over the 90 days ending on that date; live values are on the linked status pages.
The 30-second check for whether Shopify is down right now: open statusbird.io/status/shopify, read the yes-or-no line at the top, then load your own storefront in a private browser window. If the status page says up and your store loads, you are fine; if the status page says up but your store does not load, the problem is your theme, an app, your domain or DNS rather than Shopify. One caution about relying on Shopify's own page: in the 90 days ending October 28, 2026, StatusBird measured two major Shopify incidents, and Shopify's status page acknowledged neither of them within four hours, which earns it an F honesty grade even though its uptime grade is an A.
How do I check if Shopify is down right now?
- Independent status first. StatusBird's Shopify page is re-read every 2 minutes and shows the current state, when it changed, and the last 90 days of incidents. If Shopify is having a major outage it shows there whether or not Shopify has posted yet.
- Your own store second. Load the homepage, a product page and the cart in a private window. A storefront that loads but cannot add to cart usually means a checkout or app problem, not a platform one.
- Shopify's own page third. status.shopify.com lists the components Shopify says are affected (Admin, Checkout, Storefront, Shopify Payments). It is the right source for what Shopify plans to do about it, and the wrong one for whether it has started.
Why is Shopify's status page slow to admit an outage?
Every vendor publishes an incident only after an engineer has confirmed one, written it up, and had it approved. That delay is measurable. StatusBird compares the moment a vendor's status indicator turns major or critical with the moment the vendor posts an incident about it, and publishes the result as an honesty grade for each service. Shopify's two major incidents in the current 90-day window were never acknowledged on its status page inside the four-hour window the grade allows, so Shopify grades F on honesty while grading A on uptime. Klaviyo, by comparison, acknowledged its one incident immediately and grades A on both.
What should I do while Shopify is down?
Stop sending paid traffic to a store that cannot take orders; pause the campaigns, which takes a minute and saves the day's spend. Answer the support inbox with a short note that it is a platform outage and orders will work again shortly. Do not change theme settings, apps or DNS during the incident; the temptation to "fix" something is how a 20-minute outage becomes a day of self-inflicted problems. When it ends, StatusBird's Shopify outage history records the measured start, end and duration, which is the record you need if you later ask for an SLA credit or explain a revenue dip.
How do I find out automatically next time?
Have the check come to you. StatusBird watches Shopify and the other services a store depends on every 2 minutes and alerts by SMS, email, Slack, Microsoft Teams or Discord on Pro ($29 a month, 7-day trial with no card). The free plan watches one service and sends a next-day digest. Pro also checks your own storefront URL, which catches the outages that are yours rather than Shopify's.
StatusBird checks every monitored service every 2 minutes and keeps every reading. Availability counts major and critical incidents only. The honesty grade is the mean number of minutes between a vendor's status page first showing a major or critical problem and the vendor posting an incident about it, graded A (under 15 minutes) to F (4 hours or never).
FAQ
Is Shopify down right now?
The live answer is at statusbird.io/status/shopify, re-read every 2 minutes with the time of the last reading shown. If it says yes, it also shows when the outage started.
Is it Shopify or just my store?
If the independent status page says operational and your store will not load, it is your store: a theme change, an app, an expired domain or a DNS edit. If the status page shows an incident, it is Shopify, and nothing you change will help until it ends.
How often does Shopify have outages?
Two major or critical incidents in the 90 days ending October 28, 2026 by StatusBird's readings, with an A reliability grade. Shopify reports minor issues more often than that; StatusBird's availability figure counts only major and critical states.
Does Shopify's status page tell the truth?
It tells it late. Both major incidents in the current 90-day window went unacknowledged on status.shopify.com within four hours, which is why Shopify holds an F honesty grade. The page is reliable for what Shopify is doing about an incident once it has posted one.
